Magic Sets

Magic sets for children interested in learning the art of magic.

My First Magic Set

Abracadabra! Now kids can mystify an audience with Magic Rainbows, Rabbit and Rings, Tricky String, Mystery Tube, Magnetized Wand, and more. My First Magic Set holds 12 fun tricks, complete props and secrets for presenting them, and the carrying case to take the show on the road. All magicians need is the cape and top hat. Actually, the 4-to-8-year-olds for whom this set is intended probably also need adult help in reading the well-written and illustrated, 16-page "Secret Instruction Booklet." Parents and kids get together doing the light assembly necessary (such as separating the perforated sheet of cards, folding cardboard to form the magic box, applying a sticker) to four of the tricks. Then pore over the step-by-step pictures and instructions before the little magician goes off to perfect the sleight of hand. For extra help, every trick's instructions are accompanied by a "Secret" that summarizes and explains the key to the trick. (Example: "The hidden finger hole allows you to secretly reach in and 'untie' the string.") A sure-fire hit--better start sewing that cape and top hat. --Ava Natov

Marshall Brodien's 50 Tricks Magic Show

Here's weeks, months, maybe even years of fun. Kids startle and delight themselves and their audiences when they master the tricks in Marshall Brodien's Magic Show. Multiply two rabbits into six. Double a bowl of rice, then change it to water. Change red balls into blue balls. It's all here: the magician's table, wand, magic cups and cubes, thumb-trick gadget, little foam rabbits, fuzzy balls... all the specialized props and paraphernalia, plus the step-by-step instructions and drawings that let a young magician in on the secrets of 50 amazing tricks. Some tricks require the use of commonly available items such as a book, newspaper, rice, coins, etc. Some assembly of cardboard items is required. Includes a 32-page instruction booklet for 50 tricks, plus a bonus sheet with easy-to-follow instructions for 100 tricks such as Magic Arithmetic, Mind Reading, and The Square Puzzle. For best results, good reading skills are required. --Ava Natov

Magic Hat

It's as cliché as it gets--trick cards, shuffling cups, knotting rope--but kids will feel as accomplished as David Copperfield after filling an entire show with masterful performances learned from this deluxe magic kit. Of course, the central item is an illustrious, albeit floppy, black top hat. Inside it is a secret pocket, from which to pull things--including a white rabbit--as if from thin air! A discreet slit in the hat's seam also accommodates a hidden hand, which can make the rabbit (which doubles as a hand puppet) perform between tricks. Most of the tricks require some analytical and fine motor skill, and some items are small and easy to swallow, so this toy is intended for Houdinis that are at least 5 years old. --Diane Beall
